Hollywood/Fairfax

Wa Sushi
1106 N La Cienega Blvd (310) 854-7285
Insanely good sushi/fusion creations from ex-Matsuhisa chefs. Pricey but stupendous.

Mario's Peruvian Seafood
5786 Melrose Ave: (323) 466-4181.
Peruvian greatness on Melrose in Hollywood. Wonderful stir fried saltados and tallarin (spaghetti).

Nyala
1076 South Fairfax Avenue, 323•936•5918
The fancy place in the Ethiopian Fairfax ghetto. Stevie Wonder signed picture!!! Terrific kitfo, the national dish of raw beef and butter. Don't miss it!

Messob
1041 S. Fairfax Ave , Tel: 323-938 8827
Homier Fairfax Ethiopian option, with tasty tibs (beef fried with peppers and onions), kitfo and stews. Vegetarian options such as collards and lentils recommended.

Pink's
709 N. La Brea Ave., 323.931.4223
Ultra-famous hot dog stand. I wouldn't wait for half an hour but the chili dog is a classic of its species. UPDATE: For the purist, a mild Polish dog, mustard, relish, onions but NO chili, is a superb choice.

Uzbekistan
7077 Sunset Blvd. 323-464-3663
An unforgettable L.A. international restaurant that must be tried. Russia meets Central Asia with kebab plates and terrific pickled veges. Again, the deafening band (this time a violin-containing trio) with Russian graffiti for atmosphere in the booths.

Canter's
419 North Fairfax Ave, 323 651 2030
Questionable quality at this famous Jewish deli on Fairfax but you might see stars. I liked the mishmosh OK.

Dos Burritos
Hollywood and Vine, recently relocated. Do not confuse with Los Burritos!
Mexican dive in central Hollywood with outstanding plates including pastor burrito and crazy chiles relleno. Try some geological camote/sweet potato from the dessert cabinet.

Sake House Miro
809 S. La Brea, 323-939-7075
Worthwhile La Brea izakaya/Japanese pub.

Greece's
901 S. La Brea Los Angeles, CA 90036 (310) 822-6026
A well kept secret barbeque spot, Greece's has a superfine pork rib slab and very deliberate service from an elderly dude who epitomizes the word "pitmaster". Plus it shares a minimall with the Bethel church! Smokiness is truly next to Godliness.

Have you tried the "sushi Wagon" on 6323 Hollywod Blvd, near Vine? I've recently had their Spicy Tuna Salad and Udong. The dressing the salad was awsome and the broth of the Udong was perfect.
