West LA around Pico

The Apple Pan
10801 W. Pico Blvd., 310-475-3585
Old old school burger joint and subject of controversy. I really like it, though bbq sauced Hickory burger is less fine than regular. Pie is good with ice cream from same supplier as Disneyland according to counterdude - woohoo!

John O'Groats
10516 W Pico Blvd , 310-204-0692
Killing breakfast, huge lines befitting best on Westside status. Also try fish and chips.

Junior's
2379 Westwood Boulevard 310.475.5771
Pricey but famous deli with good pastrami sandwich.

Torafuku
10914 W Pico Blvd (310) 470-0014
White rice is the specialty at this Japanese place - avoid sushi and get one of the tremendous specials from the Japanese traditional menu. On Pico. Onigiri/rice ball recommended.

Aroma Cafe
2350 Overland south of Pico 310 836 2919
Awesome Bosnian outpost for cevapi/grilled sausage kebab, flaky pastry bureks and soured cream called kajmak. High quality all around!

My favorite cheap lunch in W.L.A. is Cheng Du (formerly Chung King) on the south side of Pico between Sawtelle and Barrington. Lunch specials under $5, a buck more for shrimp dishes. Outstanding hot'n'sour soup, egg roll, rice, and goodsized entrees -- I like the Mongolian beef, the shrimp with garlic sauce, and the pork w/ broccoli al a Cheng Du. Parking alongside the restaurant.
