How To Use This Guide
Welcome to Low End Theory's LA Restaurant guide. This blog was run by Low End Theory until June 2006. Now it is in custody of his friend MJ.
Restaurants are organized by neighbourhood and by cuisine. In the cuisine guide, favourites are listed first.

When I moved to L.A., the chef at San Francisco's fabulous Hulu House made this Mickey Mouse-styled pulut hitam (black rice with coconut milk) for my farewell dinner. How I miss that restaurant!

Can anyone decode this cryptic British street slang?
The best authentic Mexican-style taqueria I've found in the Culver City area is Tacomiendo. Wonderful juicy flavorful meat, homemade corn tortillas, and a nice full salsa bar. My friend from the Yacatan calls it "a national treasure." :)

your site is very useful :)..
Simon,
You should try Moura's Cafe in Westchester for some authentic, home cooked Lebanese cuisine.

Hi Simon,
I just wanted to let you know your link to http://www.mcdb.ucla.edu/Research/Jacobsen/current.html is broken on several pages. I hope all is well, I haven't seen an update in the last couple weeks. In any case, feel free to check out my prototype site, www.lunchspark.com, and let me know what you think. I'll love to get feedback from you since it sounds like we went to similar restaurants.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIMON!!! HAVE FUN WHEREVER YOU ARE!~ =)
Low End,
Just moved to town, and your site changed my life.

Hi – I like your blog, and wondered if you’d be interested in sharing your opinion on a new project I’m working on. Well, more than a project. We’ve recently started a new company in Silicon Valley (having started a few successful ones before) addressing the local space.
If you or anyone you know with expertise in (blog topic) would be interested in providing early feedback – we are definitely listening.
The site is www.placepop.com, The concept is that writing reviews on Yelp is too cumbersome for most people, and too limited in the # of cities it covers. But that if we can make sharing places – any place anywhere in the world – a lot easier, a lot more people could participate. And that would help us all discover more great places.
We’ve just released the site, it’s an experiment and – well, any opinion would be accepted (you can email me thoughts, or post them anonymously on the feedback link).
Thanks, and great blog.

I have a question. I ate lunch today at a place called Eatin' Healthy in Quincy, MA. I ordered my chicken wrap and soup at the register and retrieved my food at the register. I paid with credit card and on the receipt there was an entry for tip. I figured since this is not a restaurant nor did the staff wait on me, I did not tip and wrote in the amount of my meal. Later tonight when I checked my account online, apparently I had graciously tipped 20% without my knowledge. I was wondering is this illegal and extremely rude? Or am I in the wrong?
